Where is Grenada island? Navigating the Enchanting Shores of Grenada
Where exactly is Grenada? Often confused with its counterpart in Spain, Granada — though the two couldn’t be more different. We delve into the geographical nature of Grenada and what makes it so special.
Grenada is one of the southernmost islands of the Caribbean
Located in the eastern Caribbean Sea, Grenada is the southernmost of the Windward Islands. It sits directly south of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and north of Trinidad and the South American mainland. Direct flying time from the UK is approximately 8-9 hours, 3 hours from Miami, 5 hours from New York, 4.5 hours from Charlotte and 5.5 hours from Toronto.
It’s surrounded by the eastern Caribbean Sea
Grenada is lucky to have over 45 beaches, most of which are white sand beaches. Encapsulated by the Caribbean Sea, its waters are always welcomingly calm and warm for year-round swimming. The most popular of which is Grand Anse Beach, with over two miles of white sand beach and crystal clear waters. The southern side of Grenada is well-known for its white sand beaches. The beaches of the north gradually become more rustic, yet are just as beautiful.
It’s small but mighty
At 21 miles long and 12 miles wide, Grenada is one of the smallest Caribbean islands, and to its advantage. This makes it easy to explore the island in a day if it’s a quick trip. If you’re here for a longer stay, you won’t be disappointed, adventure in any direction and you’ll have a plethora of hidden hikes and places to explore throughout.
Grenada is made up of three islands
Little did you know that Grenada is a tri-island state. Consisting of Grenada mainland, Carriacou & Petite Martinique, you most certainly aren’t tied to just one island on your visit. Carriacou is easily accessible as a day trip, or spend a couple of nights and explore further afield towards Petit Martinique and the neighboring islands of the Grenadines. The possibilities are endless.
It’s warm and always will be
No need to check your weather apps for Grenada, throughout the year the temperature fluctuates only mildly between 27 C to 32 C, so there’s never any need to bring a cardigan. Being just 12 degrees north of the equator also means that the time the sun sets and rises minorly changes throughout the year. On the shortest day of the year, sunset is at 5:48pm and on the longest day, it’s 6:34pm. Rainfall in Grenada is also usually brief, thanks to fast-moving weather patterns and microclimates. Needless to say, warmth, sunshine and a healthy dose of daylight are guaranteed during your stay on the island.
